Application & material guidance

Responsible Material Use

Material performance and responsible handling belong in the same specification. Request information for the actual grade, manufacturing site and downstream process.

Documentation for the supplied material

  • Current technical data and the agreed purchase specification.
  • Safety data appropriate to the material and jurisdiction.
  • Batch or lot identification and agreed inspection results.
  • Any required restricted-substance declarations with their scope and date.

Handling practices should follow the supplied grade and its process-specific documentation.

Consider conversion and end of use

Cutting, machining, thermal processing and removal can create different exposure conditions from handling an intact product. Plan controls with the material supplier and the site’s qualified safety personnel. An inorganic or binder-free construction does not mean that all handling risks are absent.

Keep environmental claims verifiable

Management-system certification describes an organization and its stated scope. It is not proof that every product is certified, non-toxic or carbon neutral. Request the actual certificate and applicability before including such claims in a procurement or customer specification.
